With 2026 officially declared as the "Year of Youth" by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, the Punjab Government has rolled out massive self-employment initiatives. The two most prominent programs generating massive public interest are the Asaan Karobar Scheme and the Punjab E-Taxi Scheme.

1. Punjab E-Taxi Scheme (Green Mobility)

To combat smog in Lahore and provide respectable earning opportunities, the government is distributing 1,100 electric taxis. This pilot project is a massive step towards green energy and youth employment.

Key Features of E-Taxi Scheme:

• Subsidized Down Payment: The government covers a significant portion of the upfront cost. Women receive a 60% subsidy on the down payment, while men receive a 50% subsidy.

• Free Registration: The Excise Department will register these E-Taxis free of cost.

Eligibility: Applicants must hold a valid driving license (commercial/LTV), be between 21 to 45 years of age, and be a resident of Lahore (for the initial phase). Applications are submitted through the Bank of Punjab (BOP) portal.

2. Asaan Karobar Scheme (SME Loans)

For youth looking to start or expand small businesses (like tailoring shops, tech startups, food stalls, or retail shops), the Asaan Karobar Card is the perfect solution.

Benefits of Asaan Karobar Card:

• Interest-Free Loans: Borrowers can access funds ranging from Rs. 100,000 to Rs. 1,000,000 without any markup.
• Easy Processing: The loan process has been simplified with minimal paperwork requirements, bypassing traditional rigid banking protocols.
• Women Quota: A special 30% quota is reserved exclusively for female entrepreneurs to promote women in business.

How to Apply

Both schemes are facilitated by the Bank of Punjab (BOP). Interested candidates can visit any BOP branch or the official Punjab Youth Initiative website. For the Asaan Karobar scheme, applicants will need to present a basic business plan or proof of an existing business to secure the funds.
